Welcome! The Campaign for the Arts (CFA) is a non-profit group made up of citizens committed to raising $8.6 million in private funds to support the efforts to enhance the District’s historic icons: the Whatcom Museum and Mount Baker Theatre. This money will provide endowments for the Museum and the Theatre, and will also be used for capital construction for both institutions as well as some streetscape work.
The CFA is a reflection of the strong support this community has made to the Arts District project. To date our generous donors have contributed over $5.1 million towards our goal, and this without a lot of publicity.
I wish to publicly thank those forward thinking early donors who saw and understood the vision of a developing Arts District scene that would be stimulated not only by this new building, but by new streetscapes, and by the final phase of upgrades to the Mount Baker Theatre. These donors, in large measure, provided the assurance needed by the City and by the Bellingham-Whatcom Public Facilities District to move this project ahead.
The Whatcom Museum’s new facilities for fine art and children’s exhibits are taking shape, adding energy to the District even before completion. The structure of the spectacular light catcher wall is already in place. Less visible but equally important work on the Mount Baker Theatre is also underway. The Studio Theatre is hosting an abundance of performances while the Theatre’s main stage is in intermission until December, 2008. My congratulations to everyone who has worked to get us to this far!
